Upcoming Saint Louis artist, Kody Ko-So Kool, or personally known as Kody, is an individual you do not want to slip through your fingers.
Last December I got the chance to watch this guy make a least three or more mind-stimulating songs for his forthcoming projects, alongside other Saint Louis artist like, Chazz, Najii Person, and producer Mvstermind. I can wholeheartedly say it was an experience I, personally, will never forget because it forced me to understand and feel what real music was.
Real Music: the only intangible thing that people can listen to and experience.
One cannot lie in music. And I’m not referring to the physical words in a song or lyric, but the feeling you get when actually listening. In so many words, music is a language all in itself. It carries out emotions. It is the human universal consciousness of mind kind.
The day I met Kody, my best friend and I were joy riding around the city and she had been telling me how dope this dude was and how his music was “the realest shit I’ve heard in a while.” And me previously knowing Kody from high school, it was hard for me to believe. So I told her “pull up something.” She ended up playing Perpetual, the only piece of music he had out at the time.
Perpetual addressees the toxic cycle young men and women go through and face everyday, continuously. He tells a story of a girl battling with love and her self worth, and a boy going through the struggle of societal stereotypes, and how it all leads to physical aggression.
Recently, the Saint Louis artist released a new track to his SoundCloud , The Hope “HALLELUJAH” mix, a song that’s visually describing where he’s standing today, presently. He’s standing at a mental door that leads to his highly anticipated future, while going through a check list of the do’s and don’t of the mind, happiness, and life. All while asking for the graces and blessings of God. Hints the title.
The vibes one would catch from Kody’s art is, in the most dramatic way, the way our ancestors from centuries ago wanted us to feel when listening to real music. The topics and situations he chooses to discuss in his music, to some, are a foreign language that no one is fluent in, but to the real listeners, it’s as clear and articulate as everyday English. You’ll listen to one song and think you have his overall image figured out but as soon as track 2 plays, he gives you a totally different character to empathize with. He’s a storyteller. It reminds me of how colors work. For example, think of the color blue. The average person is going to think of that stained visual of what they perceive blue as and carry on with their lives. But what they do not get nor do they understand is how complexed and deep the basic color blue actually is. Their are so many shades, hundreds actually, of simple colors like blue. Similar to Mr. Ko-So. He isn’t just a rapper. He’s a a child of God and that alone does not have an ounce of simplicity to it. He’s a dreamer, while at the same time being one the most realistic, idealistic, people one could ever meet. Kody is conscious, an activist, an overall happy soul, and a spitting image of what ambition is. He has a vision, a very “far-fetched” vision, according to society, but for the ones that truly know the plan, they understand and accept that he and his vision are nothing but heaven sent and will soon be heard.
“Now can I get a Hallelujah?”
